About Me
Dr. Frank S. Ashburn is a board-certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist who has cared for patients in the Washington, D.C. community for more than three decades. After earning his undergraduate degree from Yale and graduating Alpha Omega Alpha from Georgetown University School of Medicine, he completed an ophthalmology residency at Georgetown and a glaucoma fellowship at Washington University/Barnes Hospital. He has participated in landmark clinical research, including the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS) and the Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study (AGIS), and has long been active in outreach for underserved communities.
Today, Dr. Ashburn focuses on comprehensive glaucoma care, patient education, and in-office laser treatments, drawing on deep surgical experience to guide patients who need cataract or complex glaucoma procedures. He previously served as medical director of the Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation and the International Eye Foundation, and is recognized in regional and national “Top Doctor” lists. Patients value his thoughtful explanations, conservative approach to surgery, and commitment to long-term vision preservation.
