About Me
Dr. Erwin Puente is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for conditions affecting the retina and vitreous. He brings a strong research background to clinical care, having completed both an MD and a PhD through Washington University in St. Louis’ Medical Scientist Training Program. His doctoral work focused on molecular cell biology and the pathophysiology of diabetes.
After ophthalmology residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center—where he also served as Chief Resident—Dr. Puente completed a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery. He evaluates and treats a wide range of retinal disorders, including age-related macular degeneration, macular holes and epiretinal membranes (macular puckers), diabetic retinopathy and other retinal vascular occlusions, and retinal detachments. He is committed to helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options, including when advanced imaging, laser procedures, injections, or surgery may be recommended.
