Dr. Elizabeth Cretara
About Me
Elizabeth A. Cretara, MD, is an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of New Mexico who specializes in glaucoma and cataract care. She partners closely with patients to preserve vision using medical therapy, laser procedures, and surgery tailored to disease stage and lifestyle needs. Her academic practice also includes teaching residents and fellows and advancing research that links women’s health and glaucoma risk.
Dr. Cretara earned her undergraduate degree from Middlebury College, completed medical school at SUNY Upstate, ophthalmology residency at Brown University, and glaucoma fellowship at the Casey Eye Institute and Devers Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon. Since joining UNM in 2021, she has received competitive support from the American Glaucoma Society and UNM’s Brain and Behavioral Health Institute. Patients appreciate her clear, empathetic communication and the time she takes to explain options—from drops and laser to MIGS and traditional surgery—so they can make confident, informed decisions.
