About Me

Edward Chay, M.D. is an Ophthalmologist, Glaucoma Specialist & Cataract Surgeon at Schefkind Eye Care where he provides medical, laser & surgical eye care to the Mt. Vernon, Springfield & Alexandria communities of Fairfax County, VA. He also serves as the INOVA Service Line Chief of Ophthalmology. Dr. Chay earned his medical degree at the State University of New York (SUNY)-Downstate Medical Center followed by a residency in Ophthalmology at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center as well. He then completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Chay has continued his dedication to education by mentoring young eye surgeons in cataract surgery and advanced techniques of glaucoma surgery and patient care.

At Schefkind Eye Care, Dr. Chay specializes in routine as well as complex cataract surgery with a special interest and expertise in bladeless laser cataract surgery and the use of advanced intraocular lens implants (IOL), including toric lens implants to correct astigmatism and multifocal lenses to help cataract surgery patients reduce their dependence on eyeglasses, bifocals or reading glasses and achieve a full range of vision after cataract surgery. As a glaucoma specialist, Dr. Chay provides specialized glaucoma treatment using lasers and microscopic stents, tubes and valves to perform minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).

Dr. Chay’s mission is to foster a strong doctor-patient partnership through compassion, listening, and providing state of the art medical care. Although glaucoma is a serious eye disease, if promptly diagnosed and responsibly treated, many of its effects can be minimized and a healthy and productive lifestyle can be maintained.
