Dr. Donald Coleman

Dr. Donald J. Coleman is a vitreoretinal surgeon and Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center. His clinical interests focus on disorders of the retina and vitreous, as well as the application of ophthalmic ultrasound for both diagnosis and treatment. He has specialized in vitreoretinal surgery and has extensive experience managing ocular trauma, intraocular foreign bodies, and conditions such as retinal detachment and uveal melanoma.

Throughout his career, Dr. Coleman has been a pioneer in developing ultrasound technologies for the eye. He collaborated in creating the first commercially available B-scan ultrasound equipment for ophthalmic use and holds multiple patents for ultrasonic diagnostic and therapeutic devices. His innovations have improved the evaluation and treatment of eye diseases, particularly in the areas of vitreoretinal surgery and ocular imaging.

Dr. Coleman has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers and numerous textbook chapters, and he has been recognized with several prestigious awards for his contributions to ophthalmology. He continues to treat patients and advance research in retinal disease and ophthalmic ultrasound.
