About Me
Dr. Dean Ouano is an ophthalmologist and clinical researcher specializing in cataract and glaucoma surgery, cornea and external diseases, and complex anterior segment reconstruction. He has been in private practice at Coastal Eye Clinic in New Bern, North Carolina, since 1996. His clinical work includes advanced techniques such as small incision cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), corneal transplantation (DSAEK, DMEK), and the management of ocular surface disease and astigmatism with toric lens implants.
Dr. Ouano pursued fellowship training in cornea and external disease at Duke University after completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute. He has pioneered novel approaches to corneal disease management, including a technique for treating corneal neovascularization, and has contributed to advances in corneal transplantation and the treatment of infectious eye disease. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, combining advanced surgical techniques with patient-centered care.
