About Me

Dr. Carl Eli Rosen is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orbital and oculoplastic surgeon and neuro-ophthalmologist who joined Ophthalmic Associates in 1994. He is Alaska’s first and only specialist in these areas. Due to high demand, he is no longer accepting new Neuro-Ophthalmology referrals but is accepting new Oculoplastic referrals. His clinical focus includes orbital surgery, cataract surgery, neuro-ophthalmology, blepharoplasty/eyelid surgery, ptosis/drooping eyelid, eyelid and eye socket bone reconstruction, and nasolacrimal/tear duct surgery. He uses his extensive experience to treat a wide range of patients, including those with severe trauma.

Dr. Rosen earned his B.A., cum laude, from Amherst College in 1982, his M.A. in immunology from Harvard University in 1986, and his M.D. from Boston University in 1988. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1993 and then a fellowship in oculoplastics, orbital surgery, and neuro-ophthalmology at Allegheny General Hospital in 1994. He became board certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 1995.

Dr. Rosen has published numerous articles in major medical journals and authored a book chapter on Graves’ Orbitopathy, for which he has received a research award. He is an inductee of the American Society for Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASOPRS) and has served as president of the Alaska Ophthalmology Society and the Alaska State Medical Association. Outside of medicine, he is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a gold medalist at the U.S. Open and Pan American Championships, and is currently attending Stanford Graduate School of Business. He enjoys classical music and medical information technology.
