About Me
Dr. C. Richard Bowers Jr. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a founding member of Bluegrass Eyecare Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He has been in private practice since completing his ophthalmology residency and specializes in cataract surgery and LASIK surgery. Dr. Bowers manages a large general ophthalmology practice where he treats glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataracts, ocular injuries, and infections. He also provides comprehensive medical eye examinations for overall eye health.
Born in Texas and raised in Indiana, Dr. Bowers studied at Princeton University and DePauw University, earning a BA degree Cum Laude and being elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree from Indiana University, completed a surgical internship at the University of New Mexico, and finished his ophthalmology residency at Indiana University. With extensive experience, he has performed thousands of cataract surgeries and introduced LASIK surgery to his practice in 1996.
Dr. Bowers is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has served as president of both the Kentucky Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the Lexington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and is a member of the Lexington Medical Society.
