About Me

Dr. William Anninger is a pediatric ophthalmologist in the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He specializes in treating children with a range of vision disorders, including strabismus, pediatric cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity, and eye trauma. Dr. Anninger chose his specialty out of a passion for caring for children with vision loss and is dedicated to providing clinically excellent experiences and outcomes for his young patients and their families.

Dr. Anninger’s research focuses on orbital cellulitis, the causes of nystagmus, and the use of the Artisan intraocular lens for aphakic patients with poor capsular support. In addition to his clinical work at CHOP, he serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Scheie Eye Institute. He completed his medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School, followed by a transitional internship at Cambridge City Hospital, Harvard University, an ophthalmology residency at the William Havener Eye Institute, Ohio State University, and a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at CHOP.

Dr. Anninger strives to ensure that children and their families feel they have received excellent care delivered with empathy and compassion. His patient experience ratings reflect consistently high marks for communication, concern, and treatment discussion.
