About Me

Dr. W. James Gealy, Jr. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a founding partner of San Luis Obispo Eye Associates. With over four decades of experience in San Luis Obispo County, he provides medical and surgical care for a wide range of retinal conditions. His clinical expertise includes the management of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, retinal vascular disorders, macular holes, and epiretinal membranes.

Dr. Gealy completed his medical training at Yale School of Medicine, where he earned the John P. Peters Prize for Outstanding Thesis, and pursued his ophthalmology residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He subsequently completed a fellowship in retina, vitreous, and uveitis at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gealy serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Outside of medicine, he enjoys live music, world travel, backpacking, photography, and tending to his home orchard and flock of chickens.
