Dr. William Burkes

Dr. William Burkes is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Shannon in San Angelo, where patients can access comprehensive medical and surgical eye care close to home. He evaluates and treats cataracts, glaucoma, and a wide range of retinal and anterior segment conditions, and works alongside a multidisciplinary team that provides advanced diagnostics, laser treatments, and surgical options tailored to each patient’s needs. In addition to standard cataract surgery, patients may be candidates for astigmatism-correcting or multifocal lenses to reduce dependence on glasses.

Dr. Burkes completed undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, earned his medical degree from the Texas A&M Health Science Center, and went on to internship and ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His care philosophy emphasizes clarity, comfort, and continuity—making sure every patient understands their diagnosis and the benefits and risks of each option so they can move forward with confidence.
