Dr. Wendy Kirkland

Dr. Wendy A. Kirkland is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and glaucoma surgery at Arena Eye Surgeons in Columbus, Ohio. She has been with the practice since 2013 and focuses on complex cataract procedures, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), traditional glaucoma operations, and a variety of laser treatments for glaucoma. Dr. Kirkland is particularly skilled in combination surgeries that address both cataract and glaucoma simultaneously, aiming to provide patients with optimal long-term visual outcomes.

A native of Columbus, Dr. Kirkland completed her combined BS/MD degree at the University of Akron and Northeast Ohio Medical University, graduating at the top of her class with induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She then pursued her ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center, where she served as chief resident, followed by a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary under the guidance of renowned specialists Dr. Robert Ritch and Dr. Jeffrey Liebmann.

Her expertise has been recognized with multiple honors, including being named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2022 and 2023, receiving the Exceptional Women in Medicine distinction, and featuring in Columbus Monthly's Top Doctors list. Dr. Kirkland also contributes to the field as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and enjoys mentoring other physicians in training. Outside of work, she values time with her family in Upper Arlington, staying active, and traveling.
