Dr. Walter Sams

Dr. Walter A. Sams IV is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist and expert cataract surgeon with Athens Eye Doctors & Surgeons. He sees patients at Lake Oconee Eye Care three Wednesday afternoons each month. Dr. Sams specializes in anterior segment surgery, including advanced cataract surgery using the latest implantable intraocular lens technology.

A native of Athens, Dr. Sams joined the practice in August 2008 and became a partner in December 2009. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia, where he served as chief resident, after an internship at Baptist Hospital System in Birmingham. Dr. Sams is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
