About Me
Dr. Thuy Doan is an Associate Professor in the UCSF Department of Ophthalmology, where she specializes in ocular infection and inflammation. She leads the Doan Lab, a metagenomic epidemiology laboratory at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation, focusing on microbiomes and antimicrobial resistance.
Her research aims to understand how human microbiomes in the eye, gut, and respiratory tract respond to clinical interventions, such as mass drug distribution in Sub-Saharan Africa. This work helps track antibiotic resistance and inform public health policies. Dr. Doan uses genomic technologies to identify causes of ocular infections like uveitis, conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, and scleritis, with the goal of improving patient care and preventing blindness.
Through her dedication to both research and clinical practice, Dr. Doan addresses a range of infectious and inflammatory eye diseases, contributing to advancements in ophthalmology and better outcomes for patients. Her work emphasizes the importance of microbiome research in eye health.
