Meet Dr. Steven James Shaw

Steven J. Shaw, MD, is a fellowship-trained corneal specialist and ophthalmologist at Duke Health, where he is currently accepting new patients. He believes in treating each patient with the same care and compassion he would want for his own family members, aiming to provide the best possible experience and treatment available.

Dr. Shaw specializes in the management of corneal diseases and performs advanced corneal transplant procedures such as DSEK, DMEK, and DALK. He also offers comprehensive care for cataracts, utilizing laser cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses, and provides refractive surgery options including LASIK. His expertise extends to treating dry eye syndrome and glaucoma, ensuring a full spectrum of eye care services.

Inspired by his father's career in medicine, Dr. Shaw pursued ophthalmology to combine his passion for mathematics and engineering with his desire to help people achieve better vision. He completed his fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at Piedmont Hospital/Eye Consultants of Atlanta and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer, and playing the violin.
