Dr. Spencer Hayes

Dr. Spencer Hayes is a board-certified ophthalmologist at San Antonio Eye Center who specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery, and glaucoma surgery. He provides individualized treatment plans for each patient, whether they need routine eye care, cataract removal, or advanced procedures to manage glaucoma. For his cataract patients, he offers a range of advanced intraocular lens options designed to reduce dependence on glasses after surgery.

Dr. Hayes earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Trinity University, where he was also a member of the track and field team. He attended the University of Texas Health Science Center’s McGovern Medical School in Houston and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed an internship at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, followed by an ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Hayes is experienced with numerous minimally invasive glaucoma surgery techniques as well as traditional tube shunts and trabeculectomies, allowing him to tailor glaucoma care to each patient’s disease and lifestyle. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and their dog, and stays active with outdoor activities and family games.
