Dr. Sophia El Hamichi-Potamkin is a retina specialist dedicated to the medical and surgical care of diseases affecting the vitreous, retina, and macula. She combines meticulous diagnostics with advanced treatment to help patients maintain and regain vision, and takes time to explain imaging, options, and expected recovery so each person feels confident in their plan.
Dr. El Hamichi completed ophthalmology training at University Mohammed V (Morocco), a research fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, a medical retina and ocular oncology fellowship at Murray Ocular Oncology and Retina in Miami, and vitreoretinal surgery training at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Fluent in English, Arabic, and French (with conversational Spanish), she welcomes a diverse patient community. Her clinical interests span urgent retinal problems and chronic conditions, and she partners with primary eye care providers to deliver timely, coordinated care.
