Dr. Katrina Mears

Dr. Katrina A. Mears is a retina specialist and surgeon who completed her retina and vitreous medical and surgical training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She joined Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida in 2016 and became part of Retina Group of Florida in 2025, where she provides advanced retinal care.

She has served as an investigator in pivotal clinical trials that led to FDA approval of new therapies for retina and vitreous diseases. Dr. Mears also contributes to medical education by lecturing on retinal surgery techniques, retinal diagnostics, and hereditary retinal diseases, and she has authored textbook chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles.

In 2012, she received the David Barsky Kresge Eye Institute Best Research Project prize and the Obertynski Kresge Eye Institute Best Published Ophthalmology Research prize. Her research has been presented at regional, national, and international conventions and published in journals such as Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and Expert Review of Ophthalmology.
