About Me
Dr. Sheila Garcia Santana is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in retina and vitreous care, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration at Horizon Eye Care. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists, providing advanced retinal care to patients.
Her comprehensive training includes medical studies at the University of Puerto Rico, an internal medicine internship at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University, an ophthalmology residency at Boston Medical Center of the Boston University School of Medicine, and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Yale Eye Center of Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Garcia also holds a master's degree in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Garcia is involved in clinical research as an investigator for trials on diabetic macular edema and neovascular age-related macular degeneration. She lectures regularly at national meetings and volunteers as a mentor for future ophthalmologists through professional societies. Fluent in Spanish, she enjoys connecting with a diverse patient community and volunteers as a guide for blind and visually impaired athletes.
