Meet Dr. Sharmini Asha Balakrishnan

Dr. Asha Balakrishnan is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cataract, cornea, and refractive surgeon at DLV Vision. With over a decade of experience and thousands of successful surgeries, she is known for her precision, compassionate care, and commitment to tailored surgical outcomes. Dr. Balakrishnan offers a full spectrum of advanced surgical care, including manual and laser-assisted cataract surgery, premium lens implantation, astigmatism correction, LASIK, PRK, ICL implantation, and refractive lens exchange. She also specializes in treating keratoconus and performing corneal collagen crosslinking.

Dr. Balakrishnan completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center and a prestigious fellowship in Cataract, Refractive, Anterior Segment, and Cornea Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Before joining DLV Vision, she served as Director of the Cornea & Refractive Surgery Service and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Louisville. Her outstanding work has been recognized with the 2022 Vision Care Specialist of the Year award and inclusion in the 2023 Top Doctor List by Los Angeles Magazine.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Balakrishnan is dedicated to research and community service. She has published in respected ophthalmic journals and presented at national conferences. She founded M.U.S.E. to bring music to nursing homes, supports domestic violence and eating disorder awareness, and volunteers at clinics for underserved communities. In memory of her father, she raises funds for pancreatic cancer research.
