Dr. Friedel's primary clinical interest is providing comprehensive eye care, from prescribing new glasses to offering medical or surgical treatment. He aims to establish long-term professional relationships with patients, emphasizing clear communication without overwhelming scientific jargon. He believes his success stems from listening to patients and explaining conditions in an understandable way.
Dr. Friedel serves as the clinical director of the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus Eye Center and the Friedenwald Eye Institute, and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology. Since entering practice in 1981, he has been actively involved in training future ophthalmologists and continues to serve as a principal surgical instructor. He completed his internship and residency at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, where he later became the ophthalmology residency program director and chief of ophthalmology. He offers a full spectrum of ophthalmic services including routine eye examinations, cataract surgery, and management of conditions such as dry eye and glaucoma.
