Dr. Rafael Hernandez

Dr. Rafael Hernandez Jr. is a board certified ophthalmologist and a fully trained internist. He is the son of Dr. Rafael Hernandez, founder of Eye Consultants & Surgeons of Miami. He attended the University of Miami for his undergraduate degree before earning his medical degree from the Autonomous School of Medicine of Central America in San Jose, Costa Rica, graduating with Cum Laude Honors.

Dr. Hernandez completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, Columbia University in New York, and a residency in Ophthalmology at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City Truman Medical Center, University of Missouri. He has served on executive committees for house staff at multiple hospitals and has given major presentations concerning diagnoses, treatments, and procedures. He remains affiliated with several distinguished professional associations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Miami Ophthalmological Association. Since 1996, he has worked in private practice with his father, with privileges at Mercy Hospital and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
