About Me
Dr. Nikolas Hopkins is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides care for a wide range of eye conditions, with particular interests in glaucoma, cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and ocular oncology. He also has expertise in the ocular manifestations of infectious diseases. Dr. Hopkins joins UAB Callahan Eye after completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s Hamilton Eye Institute, where he managed a broad spectrum of eye conditions in both academic and clinical settings.
Dr. Hopkins earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. His research contributions include peer-reviewed publications on choroidal melanoma, conjunctival melanoma, and emerging infectious diseases such as monkeypox. He has presented his work at national and international conferences, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the International Society of Ocular Oncology.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Hopkins is dedicated to service and leadership. He founded a nonprofit foundation and organized surgical outreach programs through the Lions Club at Hamilton Eye Institute. He is passionate about delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care and sees patients at multiple UAB Callahan Eye clinic locations.
