About Me
Dr. Rao is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract, and anterior segment surgery. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine and previously served as a Senior Staff Ophthalmologist and Residency Program Director at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. His surgical expertise includes cataract surgery, advanced lens-implant fixation, and endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK and DSAEK). He is the senior director of surgical courses for advanced lens-implant fixation at national ophthalmology conferences.
As a researcher, Dr. Rao has authored many scientific papers, peer-reviewed medical journal articles, and book chapters on cornea and cataract surgery. He enjoys teaching and is a frequent presenter at national and international ophthalmology conferences, having received the Tufts ophthalmology residency program teaching award in 2018 and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in 2021. He holds numerous leadership appointments, including Medical Director of the Lions VisionGift East eye bank and committee roles with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
