Dr. Nam Nguyen

Dr. Van Nguyen is an ophthalmologist specializing in comprehensive ophthalmology and glaucoma. He obtained his MD from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri, and a glaucoma fellowship at the University of Southern California, where he remained as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology.

Dr. Nguyen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts as well as the various types of primary and secondary glaucoma. His treatment techniques include traditional glaucoma drainage devices and trabeculectomy as well as newer technologies and devices for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, depending on each patient’s needs.

Having immigrated to the United States from rural Vietnam as a child, Dr. Nguyen maintains many ties to rural Vietnam and has a particular interest in global ophthalmology and increasing access to care in order to decrease the burden of the two leading causes of blindness in adults worldwide: cataracts and glaucoma. His philosophy of care revolves around patient-centered, evidence-based care, presenting the evidence to patients so they can come to an educated, shared decision on the most effective treatment for their disease while taking into account their individual needs.
