About Me
Dr. Monique Munro is a multi-fellowship–trained medical and surgical retina specialist at Mitchell Eye Centre. She cares for adults and children with complex retinal disorders, with particular expertise in inflammatory eye disease (uveitis) and pediatric retina. After completing medical school and an ophthalmology residency in Calgary, Dr. Munro pursued advanced subspecialty training at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois in Chicago—first in medical retina and uveitis, followed by a surgical retina fellowship. This background informs her thoughtful, evidence-based approach to diagnostics, intravitreal therapies, and vitreoretinal surgery. Since 2022, she has helped expand access to subspecialty retina care in Calgary and became the centre’s first female surgical retina specialist. Patients value her clear explanations and calm, team-based care, whether they need urgent treatment for a retinal detachment or ongoing management of diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration. Dr. Munro is active in national and international retina circles and is a member of the American Uveitis Society, reflecting her commitment to bringing the latest, research-driven treatments to every visit.
