About Me
Dr. Miguel Lugo is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing in Central Florida since 1987. He completed his corneal fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and his residency at Duke University Eye Center. Dr. Lugo has extensive experience in corneal transplantation, having performed over 5000 corneal transplants, including advanced procedures such as endothelial keratoplasty and keratoprosthesis. He also performed the first intraocular telescope implant in Central Florida.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lugo serves as the Medical Director of the Medical Eye Bank of Florida, which harvests and distributes eye tissue for transplantation across the United States. He is also a Medical Advisor for the Florida Department of Education's Division of Blind Services, assisting individuals with visual disabilities. Dr. Lugo has held leadership roles, including President of the Central Florida Society of Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department at Florida Hospital.
Dr. Lugo is dedicated to medical education, having been honored with the Teacher of the Year Award four times for teaching residents at Florida Hospital's Family Medicine program. His practice focuses on comprehensive ophthalmology with a specialty in corneal diseases and surgery. Patients can expect expert care for conditions requiring corneal transplantation and other complex eye surgeries.
