Dr. Michael Snyder

Dr. Michael Snyder is an ophthalmologist at Cincinnati Eye Institute who specializes in diseases and surgery of the front of the eye, including small-incision cataract surgery. He has pioneered the use of artificial iris prostheses in the United States, helping patients with traumatic or congenital iris defects such as aniridia and ocular albinism. Dr. Snyder organized and executed the clinical study that led to the first FDA approval of a custom-matched artificial iris. He has also been a clinical investigator in trials of presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses and implantable sustained-release pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Snyder previously cultivated a referral practice in cataract and corneal surgery in Albany, New York, where he taught residents at Albany Medical College. He joined the Cincinnati Eye Institute and the faculty of the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1997, where he continues to practice, teach, and conduct research. He is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati and has been actively involved in teaching other ophthalmologists through national and international organizations. Dr. Snyder has produced numerous educational videos, authored textbook chapters, and published scholarly manuscripts. He has been repeatedly elected to Best Doctors in America.
