About Me

Michael Carper, MD, is a neuro-ophthalmologist who cares for patients with visual problems that arise from the brain and optic nerve. He evaluates double vision, optic nerve disorders and visual symptoms related to neurologic disease, and guides patients through clear diagnoses and practical treatment plans. Dr. Carper has particular interest in stroke-related visual dysfunction, idiopathic intracranial hypertension and inherited optic neuropathies, and works closely with neurology and neurosurgery colleagues to coordinate comprehensive care. Patients value his careful listening, plain-language explanations and collaborative approach to decision-making. After completing residency training in neurology, Dr. Carper pursued fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology and now serves patients across multiple Johns Hopkins locations. Outside the clinic, he is active in teaching and enjoys exploring new cuisines and the outdoors with his family, reflecting his belief that great care blends clinical expertise with empathy and real-life understanding.
