About Me
Dr. Matthew J. Byun is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in retina and vitreous diseases. He received his undergraduate degree with Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University and his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. After a surgical internship at Mount Carmel Health System, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as chief resident, followed by a medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at a combined program of the University of Illinois at Chicago and University Retina and Macula Associates.
Dr. Byun has a special interest in the medical and surgical diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusion, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, and retinal detachment. He is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date and highest quality medical and surgical care to his patients.
Dr. Byun is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds professional memberships with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. He has been an investigator in many clinical trials for age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and has presented at several institutions and meetings, publishing multiple peer-reviewed articles.
