About Me
Dr. Matthew Gewirtz, a New Jersey native, is an ophthalmologist at The Eye Center. He joined the practice in 2006 after completing his medical education at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he graduated at the top of his class. He completed a one-year internship in internal medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Gewirtz performs routine eye exams for patients of all ages and has extensive expertise in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. He routinely performs small incision, stitch-less cataract surgery and integrates advanced technology such as the LenSx laser and premium intraocular lenses.
Dr. Gewirtz is Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of The American Academy of Ophthalmology. He also serves as an attending physician at Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School, where he teaches and performs surgery with residents in training.
