Dr. Matthew Johnson

Dr. Matthew Johnson is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing at Hauser-Ross Eye Institute since 2015. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology focusing on cataracts, glaucoma, and cornea care. He specializes in refractive cataract surgery utilizing the LenSx® femtosecond laser and traditional cataract surgery, with expertise in both standard mono-focal lenses and advanced technology intraocular lenses. He is current on the latest anterior segment surgical techniques and technologies and also specializes in micro-invasive glaucoma surgery, LASIK, and PRK using the latest topography-guided Wavelight® technology.

Dr. Johnson's patient philosophy centers on listening to each patient as an individual with specific concerns, wants, and needs. He takes a very individual approach with all patients, discussing the problem at hand, how it will be treated, and how to achieve better vision. He ensures any concerns with the treatment plan are addressed before the patient leaves the office, applying the same standard of care he would provide to his own family members.

Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance, and received his Doctor of Medicine from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed a preliminary internal medicine internship and his ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
