Dr. Mathew Sapp

Dr. Mathew R. Sapp is a board-certified ophthalmologist who serves as the Managing Partner at Retina Specialists of Alabama, a leading private practice specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is dedicated to providing surgical excellence, academic involvement, and compassionate care to patients with retinal conditions.

A native of Alabama, Dr. Sapp completed his medical education and training locally, earning his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and specializing through an ophthalmology residency at UAB’s Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Retina Specialists of Alabama. Since joining the practice in 2008, he has been instrumental in its growth and reputation for advanced retinal care.
