Dr. Maryo Kohen

Maryo C. Kohen, MD, is a pediatric ophthalmologist and Adult Strabismus specialist at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He also serves as an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, where he contributes to the education of future physicians.

Dr. Kohen’s practice focuses on routine and medical ocular examinations of children and adults with strabismus. He has a special interest in retinopathy of prematurity, management of amblyopia, pediatric ocular disease, and caring for special needs children. His clinical approach is grounded in evidence-based medicine to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Beyond patient care, Dr. Kohen is engaged in research on drug-eluting polymers for children after ophthalmic surgery and has received research grants from the Knights Templar Eye Foundation and Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation. He mentors medical students and residents, participates in ophthalmology continuing education events, and attends national meetings to maintain a high-quality, evidence-based practice.
