About Me
Dr. Maria Soledad Cortina is a board-certified ophthalmologist and professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. She has been an attending physician in the Cornea Service at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary since 2010, where she provides comprehensive eye care and specializes in corneal conditions and surgeries.
Dr. Cortina holds several leadership positions, including Director of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Faculty Practice, Director of the General Eye Clinic, and Director of the Artificial Cornea Program. Her clinical practice is complemented by her research in basic science, focusing on the regeneration of corneal nerves following corneal and refractive surgery. This work aims to improve outcomes for patients undergoing these procedures.
Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Cortina is dedicated to serving a diverse patient population. She is also actively involved in education as the Co-Director of the Cornea Fellowship Program, training the next generation of cornea specialists.
