About Me
Dr. Liliya Sutherland is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in vitreoretinal surgery and inherited retinal diseases. She completed her medical training at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and then pursued an ophthalmology residency through Michigan State University at Metro Health in Grand Rapids. Dr. Sutherland furthered her expertise with a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Retina Specialists of Michigan and an additional fellowship in ophthalmic genetics at the Casey Eye Institute, focusing on inherited retinal conditions.
Her clinical interests encompass diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and a wide range of inherited retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa, Leber’s congenital amaurosis, and Stargardt’s disease. She also manages uveitis and other ocular inflammatory conditions. Dr. Sutherland is actively involved in research, currently investigating new therapies for age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Sutherland is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, and several other professional organizations. She has contributed to the field through multiple research studies and publications, including articles and book chapters.
