About Me
Dr. Karl Bodendorfer is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who has been providing eye care in Lake City, Florida, since opening his private practice, Columbia Eye Associates, in 2004. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida and was later hired as the university's first comprehensive ophthalmologist, splitting his time between the Lake City VA Hospital and Shands Teaching Hospital. Dr. Bodendorfer is dedicated to supporting the local community through his thriving practice, which offers a range of ophthalmic services.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Bodendorfer has a strong background in medical education, having taught the second-year medical student course in ophthalmology at the University of Florida from 2001 to 2007. His teaching excellence was recognized with the Ophthalmology Faculty of the Year award in 2001 and 2007, as well as the College of Medicine’s Exemplary Teacher award in 2004. He has also been recognized for his patient care, receiving the Excellence in Patient Care award twice from the VA Hospital.
Dr. Bodendorfer stays active in the eye care community through memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and local medical societies. He is also committed to community service, having participated in the March of Dimes and the NASA Medical Support Team, and he joined a medical mission to Honduras in 2007 to provide eye care.
