About Me
Dr. Jose J. Echegaray is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon and the founder and director of Retina Consultants of Orlando. He cares for the full spectrum of macular and retinal disease—from diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration to retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and ocular tumors—and offers both advanced injections and complex microsurgery.
Dr. Echegaray completed undergraduate training in Neurosciences at the University of Pennsylvania, earned his medical degree with honors from Ponce Health Sciences University, and pursued research training in ocular immunology and ocular pathology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Puerto Rico, an ophthalmic oncology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, and a two-year vitreoretinal diseases and surgery fellowship at Bascom Palmer. He has published widely, serves as Ocular Oncology Section Editor for Current Ophthalmology Reports, and remains active in teaching. Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Echegaray is known for compassionate, detail-oriented care and for helping each patient understand their condition and plan with confidence.
