Dr. Joel Barthelow

Dr. J. Isaac Barthelow is an ophthalmologist at North Valley Eye Care in Chico, California. He was inspired to pursue ophthalmology during his medical school rotation when he witnessed cataract surgery restore a patient's vision to 20/20. This experience solidified his desire to make a meaningful difference in patients' lives through eye care. Dr. Barthelow completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Utah's Moran Eye Center and returned to Chico in 2006 to join North Valley Eye Care.

Dr. Barthelow is deeply committed to providing comprehensive eye care to the community, with a particular focus on expanding access for underserved populations. He has worked to develop programs that ensure patients receive necessary care regardless of their ability to pay. His clinical interests include cataract surgery, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease. Dr. Barthelow is board certified and actively involved in local and international eye care missions.
