About Me
Dr. James Koster is a board-certified ophthalmologist by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, practicing comprehensive ophthalmology since 2004. He is from Mesa, Arizona and has extensive experience in performing all types of cataract surgery, with a specialization in laser cataract surgery and premium intraocular lens implants.
He graduated magna cum laude with distinction from the University of Arizona W.A. Franke Honors College and the University of Arizona Medical School. Dr. Koster then completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago and his fellowship at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor.
With over 10,000 ocular procedures successfully completed, the majority being cataract surgeries, Dr. Koster brings a wealth of expertise. He served as past medical director of the Arizona Ophthalmic Outpatient Surgery center and has been a member of AMSURG’s Physician Advisory Board. Personally, he is married to a practicing optometrist, and they have three children. They enjoy traveling, hiking, volunteering at their church, and Dr. Koster is passionate about golf.
