About Me
Dr. James Handa specializes in the medical and surgical management of complex vitreoretinal diseases at the Wilmer Eye Institute. He treats conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and retinopathy of prematurity, as well as pediatric retinal diseases. Dr. Handa also has expertise in intraocular oncology, managing patients with choroidal melanomas and metastatic tumors of the eye.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Handa leads a research program focused on understanding the early causes of age-related macular degeneration and has been involved in innovative surgical technologies, including the Argus II retinal chip implant. As Chief of the Retina Division, he brings extensive experience to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex eye conditions. Patients can expect thorough evaluations and clear explanations of their condition and treatment options.
