About Me

Dr. Inci Dersu is an American Board certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained glaucoma specialist. She joined SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in 2013, having previously served as the director of glaucoma service and inaugural recipient of the John Nutt Endowed Chair at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Dersu specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of all types of glaucoma and also performs cataract surgery. She is dedicated to providing high quality, patient-centered care by utilizing the latest available technology.

Dr. Dersu is a recipient of the American Glaucoma Society's Patient Care Improvement Project award and has been named one of the Best Doctors by the Castle-Connolly Guide. She is passionate about mentoring and teaching students and residents, and has received the Diversity in Medicine Mentorship Award and the Graduate Medical Education Teacher of the Year Award.

Her research focuses on investigating barriers in the detection and successful treatment of glaucoma in African American and Caribbean populations, improving medication adherence, and understanding patient perspectives on outcomes after laser and other surgical interventions.
