About Me
Dr. John Danias is an internationally recognized glaucoma specialist and the Director of Research and Professor of Ophthalmology and Cell Biology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. He was appointed Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology in 2019.
Dr. Danias completed his residency and fellowship training at Mount Sinai Medical Center and previously served on the faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His clinical expertise centers on the management and treatment of glaucoma, and he is actively involved in research on neuroprotection, gene expression, and gene therapy for glaucoma, as well as the role of the microbiome in neuroregeneration. He has been the recipient of multiple research grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Eye Institute, Research to Prevent Blindness, and the Bright Focus Foundation.
