About Me

Dr. Ijeoma Asota, MD earned her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology with a minor in chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. Due to her interest in research, she completed a post-doctorate cornea research fellowship at Emory University Department of Ophthalmology. Her extensive work on corneal crosslinking contributed to the FDA approval of the corneal crosslinking trials for keratoconus. She subsequently completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Arizona in Tucson. She was fellowship trained at the prestigious Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at University of California-Irvine in diseases and surgery of the cornea and anterior segment, advanced cataract techniques and refractive surgery.

Dr. Asota is a board-certified ophthalmologist and is experienced in cataract surgery, including laser cataract surgery and premium refractive lens implants (Light-Adjustable Lenses (LAL), toric, multifocal, extended-range IOLs), corneal refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK), Implantable collamer lenses (ICLs), corneal transplantation, corneal crosslinking, and anterior segment reconstruction. She has been honored and recognized at every stage of her education and career, receiving awards for academic merit, leadership and excellence in patient care. She has published several articles in prominent medical journals and has actively been involved in training of residents, presentations at conferences, community service and international medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.

When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Asota enjoys spending time with her husband and children. Her hobbies include photography, crochet, hiking and traveling.
