About Me
Dr. Emily Birkholz is an ophthalmologist who has been serving the Mankato community since joining Ophthalmology Associates in 2011. A native of St. James, she attended Minnesota State University, Mankato, and earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, graduating at the top of her class. She completed a transitional internship in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and her ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa, where she received awards for research and teaching. Dr. Birkholz is board certified in ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Birkholz specializes in a wide range of eye conditions and procedures. Her expertise includes advanced cataract surgery with multifocal and toric intraocular lenses, laser refractive surgery such as LASIK and PRK, and medical retina treatments including laser and injections for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. She also manages glaucoma and performs functional eyelid surgery, providing comprehensive care from routine examinations to complex surgical interventions.
