About Me
Deena Shaath, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Ocala Eye, specializing in cataract surgery, corneal and external disease, and refractive surgery. She joined the practice after completing a prestigious fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, one of the top training programs in the country. Dr. Shaath is a fellowship-trained cornea specialist dedicated to advanced surgical techniques that improve patients' vision and quality of life.
She earned her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, graduating first in her class with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her academic excellence was recognized with induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and awards including the Department of Ophthalmology Medical Student Award and the Janet M. Glasgow-Rubin Certificate of Commendation for Academic Achievement. Dr. Shaath previously completed her ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she served as Chief Resident.
Her research has been published in respected journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, and she has presented at national meetings including the Women in Ophthalmology Summer Symposium. Dr. Shaath is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cornea Society, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery. She is fluent in both English and Arabic.
