About Me
Dr. Dean Hainsworth is a retina specialist at MU Health Care who treats a range of vitreoretinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and histoplasmosis. He serves as the Vitreoretinal Service Chief at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital and is a Professor of Ophthalmology.
As Director of the Clinical Research Center, Dr. Hainsworth manages clinical trials focused on diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. He is the Principal Investigator for the EDIC clinical trial, the longest running study in the U.S. examining the clinical course of patients with type 1 diabetes. His research also includes developing a urine sensor for detecting diabetic retinopathy, which may help reduce the need for yearly screening eye exams.
Dr. Hainsworth is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds the George L. and Melna A. Bolm Distinguished Faculty Scholar in Ophthalmology.
