About Me
David M. Hinkle, MD, is an ophthalmologist at Tulane School of Medicine where he holds the Oliver and Carroll Dabezies Chair in Ophthalmology. His clinical practice focuses on complex vitreoretinal surgery and the management of uveitis and other ocular inflammatory diseases. Dr.
Hinkle treats conditions such as retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, and infectious uveitis, and has extensive experience in clinical research, including participation in over 30 clinical trials and leading big data initiatives with NIH support. Dr. Hinkle completed an ophthalmology residency and chief residency at Tulane University, followed by fellowships in ocular immunology and uveitis at Harvard Medical School and vitreoretinal surgery at Albany Medical College. He also previously served as Director of the Retina Service at UMass Memorial Eye Center. His work has been recognized with the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award and the WVU Eye Institute Teacher of the Year award.
