Dr. Carlton Fenzl

Kanwal Singh Matharu, MD, is an assistant professor and ophthalmologist at University of Iowa Health Care with expertise spanning cornea and external eye disease, refractive surgery, and uveitis. He values listening closely to patients’ concerns and partnering on solutions, noting that eyesight is precious and deserves thoughtful, individualized care. Dr. Matharu earned a BA in molecular biology from Princeton University and an MD from McGovern Medical School in Houston. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by fellowships in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at UPMC and in Global Ophthalmology at Stanford University. His practice includes advanced corneal transplantation and reconstruction techniques, management of inflammatory eye disease, and vision-correcting procedures. He is committed to research and health-equity initiatives, and provides care at Iowa River Landing and the main medical center in Iowa City.

Dr. Christina L. Gillmor is a fellowship-trained cornea, cataract, and LASIK surgeon at Wolfe Eye Clinic. Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, she cares for patients with complex corneal disorders and offers advanced transplant techniques including DMEK, DSAEK, and full-thickness PKP. Dr. Gillmor also performs cataract surgery, sutureless secondary intraocular lens placement, ocular surface tumor surgery, and laser vision correction. She graduated with highest distinction from the University of Iowa, earned her medical degree at the Carver College of Medicine, completed internship at Gundersen Health System, residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center (where she served as Chief Resident), and fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Gillmor enjoys teaching, speaking, and mentoring trainees, and she remains active in service to underserved patients.

Dr. Thomas M. Meirick is a fellowship-trained cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon at Wolfe Eye Clinic. He helps patients with corneal disease, visually significant cataract, and refractive needs, offering options that range from advanced cataract surgery to laser vision correction and corneal transplantation. Patients value his clear counseling on risks, benefits, and realistic visual goals. An Iowa native, Dr. Meirick earned his MD at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington, and pursued a Cornea, Refractive, and Anterior Segment fellowship at Minnesota Eye Consultants. He sees patients across multiple Wolfe Eye Clinic locations in the Des Moines area and remains active in research and national meetings.
