About Me
Dr. Bryan James Schwent is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Retina Institute of Virginia, serving patients in the Richmond area. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal conditions, including retinal detachments, retinal vascular diseases, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, and uveitis. He also performs macular surgery for conditions affecting the macula.
Dr. Schwent completed his undergraduate education at Truman State University and earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He went on to complete an ophthalmology residency at Emory University School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident, and pursued a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and diseases at the Emory Eye Center. He later served as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Emory before joining Retina Institute of Virginia. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
